We're offering warm spaces for young people again this year at all our drop-in centres
Warm Spaces are safe, accessible, warm and welcoming places available for use by anyone in our age range; A communal place, transforming poverty and social isolation into a warm space with connection to others. Times are tough financially for young people and energy prices remain unaffordable. Social welfare income often creates a choice between putting the heating on or affording food and other bills. It shouldn’t be this way. MAP offers Warm Spaces in Norwich, Great Yarmouth, and King's Lynn.
Last winter, Warm Welcome listed over 7000 spaces, and we saw hundreds of young people at MAP. Norfolk Community Foundation's 'Community Hot-Spots' registered 10,000 users. We are experiencing a cost of living crisis on a scale that has not been seen for over 40 years. While it remains difficult to see where this crisis ends, we can at least make sure there are places in our communities that combat the effect this is having. We are coming together to ensure that young people always have a warm place to be and access to others; for support, conversation, access to advice or simply a hot cup of tea. If you are struggling to pay bills and manage money, you can visit us at any of our drop in spaces and keep warm, grab a cuppa and be welcomed with a smile.
We welcome young people who simply want to chat to others or have a place to ‘be’ – no pressure. At MAP, you can also access quality and accredited advice on your rights, welfare and wellbeing and we can provide you information, guidance and signposting to help you through. Whether it be about money, food, education, parenting or how you’re feeling – our advisers can make time to see you. Our Warm Spaces are stocked with hot and cold drinks, snacks and warm winter items. We play music, you can get creative with some mindful colouring. If you want advice or support, just speak to reception or any MAP staff. We’re here to help!
